SLUMDOG SWEEPS THE OSCARS

Slumdog Millionaire huge success continues in style at last nights Academy Awards in Los Angeles. Unfortunately Sound 24 missed out on the chance of collecting the hotly contested Best Sound Editing but the film managed to take home the coveted Oscar statue in 8 other categories, including Best Picture and Best Director. A truly amazing end to the awards season for the enchanting film that is, "Slumdog Millionaire.

At the Motion Picture Sound Editors (MPSE) awards last night Sound 24 was handed the Best Sound Editing in a Foreign Feature Film for its work on Slumdog Millionaire. This award which in voted for Sound Editors by Sound Editors was received by Tom Sayers & Glenn Freemantle on behalf of the whole Sound 24 team.
SOUND 24 COMMENCE POST ON DREAD

Sound 24 has now stated work on the horror "Dread". Anthony DiBlasi's directorial debut takes Clive Barkers short story and turns it into a tense, psychological horror which exposes the consequences of child hood trauma. The sound track needs to reflect the emotion and turmoil of the films lead characters,keeping the audience on the edge and the tension high.

At last nights star studded red carpet event Glenn Freemantle, Tom Sayers and Sound 24 won the BAFTA for Best sound for work on Danny Boyle's Slumdog Millionaire. The amazing success of this film continued through the evening as it scooped a further 6 wins including Best Film and Best Director from its 11 nominations.
AGORA ON LOCATION IN MALTA

Sound 24's Supervising Sound Editors Glenn Freemantle and Lee Herrick along with French recordist Nicolas Becker have travelled to Malta to record crowd and atmosphere sessions for Alejandro Amenabar's upcoming blockbuster, 'Agora'. The team are on location for 4 days and are directing over 60 extras in battle reenactments and other key scenes. The tracks were recorded on Sound Devices (744's & 722's) using DPA 4006, 4041t and Schoeps CMC6 and MK41 microphones. Agora is due to be mixed at Pinewood studios in April and May 2009.
'AN EDUCATION' WINS!

An Education has scooped 2 awards at Sundance Festival. The film, set in 1960's London staring Peter Sarsgaard and Carey Mulligan, won the Cinematography Award and the acclaimed Audience Award.

Sound 24 have been nominated in 2 categories in the upcoming Motion Picture Of Sound Editors Golden Reel Awards. 'Slumdog Millionaire', produced by Christian Colson and Celador Films will be competing in the the following, Best Sound Editing In a Foreign Film and Best Sound Editing Music In A Feature Film. The event takes place on Saturday 21st February in Los Angeles and will be attended by the films Supervising Sounds Editors' Glenn Freemantle & Tom Sayers.

Sound post continues on 'Invention Of Lying', the latest offering from Ricky Gervais teamed with Matt Robinson. Due to be released at the end of 2009 this project involves creating a delicate and sparse soundtrack without obscuring the comic delivery of this fabulous script.
WORK CONTINUES ON 'EVERYBODY'S FINE

Starring Robert DeNiro, Kate Beckensale and Drew Barrymore and directed by Kirk Jones (Sound24 created the soundtrack for his very successful 'Nanny MacPhee'), this was always going to be an interesting project. It is a very sensitive film, based very much around Robert DeNiro's portrayal of an elderly father trying to reconnect with his grown up children, and as such requires a beautiful and delicate soundtrack. Then film is due to be mixed at Pinewood Studios in April/May 2009 and to be released at the end of 2009.
